Slings
There are many commercial dog slings available to assist pets with decreased strength/mobility. A homemade sling is also sufficient, made from a towel or scarf, with or without handles sewn in. Below are some of the slings most commonly used by our clients. Slings are helpful when lifting dogs that require assistance on forelimbs and hindlimbs, and prevent patients from falling forward; they typically also have a handle across the back to help lift/stabilize.
- ComfortLift Carrier - resonably priced, durable, and lined with fleece inside which makes it comfortable for our patients.
- Help'EmUp Harness with "Hip Lift". A complete shoulder and hip harness system that literally lifts the lives of aging or recovering dogs!
- The Walkabout Harness can be worn throughout the day and is held in place with velcro. This is helpful for patients who need to use slings constantly throughout the day.
Life Jackets
Life jackets are useful for large dogs that have weakness in all four limbs. They are especially helpful in dogs that are recovering from cervical procedures. They are helpful because they allow owners to assist their dogs with walking by holding onto the handle on the back of the jacket. Life jackets provide padded support around the chest, and prevent patients from falling forward. They are also helpful in dogs that are undergoing hydrotherapy.
